Local Tree Surgery Teams Who Know Carlisle’s Trees
Carlisle is a city built around its rivers. The Eden, the Caldew and the Petteril all meet here, and their banks are lined with willow, alder, ash and sycamore. Rickerby Park and Bitts Park run along the Eden below the castle, Victorian villas in Stanwix and around Chatsworth Square sit among mature limes, beeches and horse chestnuts, and the newer estates in Harraby, Upperby and Belah have gardens full of birches, cherries and conifer screens planted thirty or forty years ago that have long outgrown their plots.
Beyond the city, commuter villages such as Wetheral, Scotby and Dalston have big gardens and old boundary trees, and the farmland and woods of the Eden Valley and the Solway Plain bring their own work. Our tree surgeons know how open, windy ground shapes the way a crown should be reduced, why ash right across Cumbria needs checking for dieback, and how to lower a big tree safely in a tight terraced garden. Each job is quoted by someone who has looked at the tree, and carried out by an NPTC-qualified, fully insured team working to BS 3998.

Tree Surgery Questions, Answered
How much does a tree surgeon cost in Carlisle?
Every tree is different, so we quote each job rather than publish a price list. As a guide, a hedge cut or small ornamental prune usually starts around £150–£250, a crown reduction on a typical garden tree is often £350–£750, and a full dismantle of a large mature tree in a tight back garden can run to £1,000 or more. Stump grinding is normally £80–£200 per stump. The quote covers labour, waste removal and site clean-up, with no add-ons once the team arrives.
Are your tree surgeons qualified and insured?
Yes. All work is carried out by NPTC-certified tree surgeons holding the relevant chainsaw, climbing and aerial rescue units, and every team is covered by £5 million public liability insurance plus employer’s liability. We are happy to send copies of certificates and insurance documents with your quote — always ask any contractor for these before work starts.
Can you work on trees close to my house, fence or neighbour’s garden?
This is most of the work we do. Many Carlisle gardens are terraced or tightly built up, with little room to fell a tree in one piece, so our teams climb and dismantle in sections, lowering limbs on ropes and rigging so nothing lands on roofs, conservatories, greenhouses or boundary walls. Where the canopy overhangs a neighbour we can help you agree access and leave their side as tidy as yours.
Do you take the waste away?
Yes, unless you ask us not to. Brash is chipped on site and removed, timber is cut and taken away, and lawns and paths are cleared before we leave. If you would like logs for a wood-burner or chippings for beds, tell us and we’ll leave them stacked where you want them. Green waste is recycled rather than sent to landfill.
What if my tree has a Tree Preservation Order or I live in a conservation area?
Protected trees need written consent from the council before they can be pruned or removed, and trees in a conservation area need six weeks’ notice. The former Carlisle district alone has 20 conservation areas, including Stanwix, Wetheral, Dalston, Brampton and Longtown. We’ll flag it if we think your tree may be covered so you can check with the council before booking, and once consent is in place we carry out exactly what has been approved. See work on protected trees.
How quickly can you come out?
Quotes are usually arranged within two to three working days, and most jobs are booked in within one to two weeks depending on season. If you’re worried a tree is unsafe, say so when you get in touch and we’ll let the team know.
